The Somerville community is fortunate to have an education expert like Kat Johnston running for school committee. Of the many qualities that make Kat a terric educator and policymaker is her ability to keep the hearts and minds of teachers at the center of her work. During our time together at the state education department working on teacher policy, Kat always focused on making sure our work was done for and with teachers, rather than to them. She knows that supporting teachers to be the best they can translates to more kids getting exactly what they need from school. Kat will make a terrific school committee member - one who always keeps the classroom experience top of mind and who genuinely believes in the power of great teachers to shape lives.
